In an organisation the size of Tesco there are so many goods and services that need buying in. We’re talking procuring these for functions as diverse as Marketing, IT, Property, Energy, and Retail & Distribution. And that’s across 11 countries, with a total spend of more than £5 billion. If you want scope and scale, Tesco certainly has it.

What’s important about Procurement is that we collaborate effectively with different parts of the business, depending on their specific need. Take Tesco’s graduate brochure as an example.

To get the best brochure for the best price, we first invited creative agencies to tender, and then pitch for the business. We worked with our stakeholders from Personnel to Marketing to select the winning idea, agree rates and a contract, and run an ethical check on the agency. Doing the right thing by our customers, communities, suppliers and business is the cornerstone of good procurement at Tesco. And for that you need to be great negotiator and collaborator.

Working in Procurement you directly contribute to the success of the business as the savings you make are directed passed through to our customers and shareholders.

You might find yourself supporting with the procurement in functions such as Marketing, Technology or Retail. In a business like Tesco there are so many areas that we support and a vast amount of products and services that we buy.

You will work in one of these teams:

  • Retail, Distribution and Property Procurement
  • Head Office, Customer and Technology Procurement

The programme will be based in Hertfordshire.

On your 1-2 year programme you’ll work across at least two placements in different product and service areas. This means spending time with internal partners to understand their business needs and to make sure you’re making the right procurements in line with the right plans. It should give you everything you need to become a savvy Buyer in our team.

So whether you're negotiating the price of our next TV ad, or working with our clothing function to create the next best-value store uniform, there are so many projects to get involved with.

  • We work with some of the largest businesses in the world such as Microsoft to some of the newest and most innovative start-ups.

Please be aware, that as a candidate you can only apply for one Tesco Graduate scheme.
